The Dave Elman Induction (“DEI”) is widely known and widely taught. But that was only one of several dozen inductions that Dave Elman used and taught. He repeatedly told his physician-students, “There is no way in which you cannot hypnotize a subject.” When you get done unwrapping his multiple double negatives, what Elman was saying was that ANYTHING can be used for hypnosis. Among his favorites was the Catalyst Induction, in which some common item – a cigarette or a cup of water – is used to get the client’s attention, and then a few suggestions, and TRANCE. In addition, his Hand Shake Induction, the Two-Finger Eye Induction, the Brat Induction (for children) and several others will be discussed. The intent?
